Gladiator

I have just watched (for the thousandth time) the best film in the history of Hollywood. Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe: Gladiator.

This incredibe film tells the story of Maximus, a Roman general who is betrayed by the son of the Emperor; Comodus, when Comodus becomes Emperor after killing his own father. Maximus will become a gladiator in the arena of Rome and will fight for revenge.

I cannot describe the excitement I have felt watching this film once again! This excitement I know will come everytime I watch it!

So many memorable phrases like: "What we do in life, echoes in eternity"
"Strength and honour"

And my favourite, when Comodus wants to talk to the Spaniard and Maximus turns around and says:

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true Emperor; Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

Every single time I hear that phrase I get goosebumps and shivers all over my body.

Not only that, but everytime I watch the film I still hate Comodus with all my heart, for being a coward, a traitor, a criminal, a bastard...... yes I hate him. And everytime I watch the film I hope his death was longer and more agonizing.

Directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, could it get any better? Yes! Because the Original Soundtrack (OST) is composed by Hans Zimmer!

It was nominated for 12 Oscars in 2000, winning 5: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Costume Design, Best Effects (Visual Effects) and Best Sound.

Of course Ridley Scott should have gotten Best Director (he was nominated) and Hans Zimmer Best Music, Orignal Score (he was nominated).

This film is a 10/10, no doubt, and no one should die without having watched it.

I will see it again, but not yet.

HP Pavilion!

Hello guys, I know it has been some time since my last post, I will try to be more continuous with my posts.

Well, today I am going to talk about the HP Pavilion dv6-6b13ss, my new laptop!!

It is aweeesome! For those of you who like computers let me tell you that it has IntelCore i7, 8GB RAM, Radeon graphics and 750GB hard drive. The screen is 15,6" and it is sooo light!

Not only this, but given that HP now has a contract with Beats by Dr. Dre, my laptop is equipped with Beats sounds system, and it has many loudspeakers to make it work incredibly well!

I just began using it last night and I am still importing all of my info from the other laptop, but I tell you this, I am already marking this laptop 9/10!

Here is a picture of the box before I opened it!

The Hunger Games

Hello everyone!
Today I will be talking about The Hunger Games, the book.
Yes, as many of you may already know, the superproduction nowadays in world cinemas is an adaptation of the novel by Suzzane Collins.
This book it the first in a trilogy called The Hunger Games. I have only read the first book, but it is great and I can't wait to read the next two.

The plot is very interesting: in an undefined future, there is a country in what used to be the USA which has 12 districts, all controlled by a central government. The problem is this government is cruel and powerful and every year they organize The Hunger Games, which consists on choosing two teenagers from each of the districts and  dropping them into an arena to fight to the death. These games are televised nationally.

The story then is about Katniss Everdeen, who will try to survive the Hunger Games to return home.

Great book; fast paced, interesting and exciting. 8/10

Wrath of the Titans

At last I watched this film! I had been trying aaaalllll the Easter holidays to convince my friends to go to the cinema and the other day I finally managed the feat! Wrath of the Titans.

This superproduction is pure testosterone in a bottle. With actors of the level of Liam Neeson (The Grey, Taken), Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter Saga), Bill Nighy (The Best Exotic Hotel Marigold, Love Actually) or Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) all acting as Mythical characters and most of them being gods or semi-gods, I could only sit there and enjoy the action, the special effects and the 3D in which I watched it.

The plot is not its strong point of course, but the film is great! Soooo much better than its predecessor; Clash of the Titans, which (for me) was a great disappointment.

There is great action and great scenes like Perseus fighting the chimera at the start of the film, Zeus and Hades fighting Chronos or the battle of the soldiers against the army of the underworld.

8/10, for the enjoyment of the film! Don't miss it!

Oh and BTW the trailer with the Marilyn Manson song Sweet Dreams is epic!

Grupo 7

I must admit I am not a big fan of Spanish cinema, but I must also admit that it is slowly getting better and better, and this film, Grupo 7 is a great example of this.

Grupo 7 tells the story of a group of antidrug policemen in the late 80's and early 90's in Sevilla, Spain who use methods very much illegal to obtain their information and find the criminals.

Starring the Spanish teen idol Mario Casas, this film is surprisingly well filmed and has a great opening scene.
The film's plot is not the most original of all and the film still contains the sort of decadence that surrounds all the settings in my country's cinematography, but it is enhanced with a texture and a feeling that this kind of cinema is getting better, and is being more apt to international praise.

I mark it 7/10, but am recommend it as a Spanish film which shows how the industry is evolving.

Game of Thrones

I know I know, so many posts in such a small amount of time, but the thing is I have had some busy days watching films and series (let it be known that I have a free week at uni, I don't usually have sooo much free time, although some would argue otherwise)

So, Game of Thrones' second season has just started!! Wohooo! And it starts as great as the first season ended. This must be one of the best series going around right now (of course with The Walking Dead -see my other posts).

OK cool, at the end of last season the brat of the king has killed Lord Stark!!!! And well this causes the North to call the banners and send an army going down to punish the idiot.
Meanwhile the exiled girl... (sorry for not knowing the names, but there are sooooo many.....) has managed to get the dragon eggs to hatch!!

Well then, the first episode of the second season is just building up more tension and drama, it's great!
I must admit I am getting somewhat confused with so many people, families and heirs to the throne, but I suppose I will get the hang of it as the series goes on.

9/10, you HAVE to watch it!

Oh and the Main Title song is also pretty cool!
Hear it out, these is the Show Open:

Mirror Mirror

On the same day I went to watch The Best Exotic Hotel Marigold I went to watch Mirror Mirror too.

This film starrs Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding) and Lily Collins (Abduction, Priest), daughter of Phil Collins, the famous musician.

It tells the story of Snowhite with an angle which very much resembles Disney's version, although it is not exactly the same.

This film is not great, but what can I say, I really enjoyed it. It's light-hearted and it's nice to pass the time. It is very funny and the appearances of the dwarves and the prince turned into a puppy are actually funny, only silly funny.

I give it a 7/10 for a couple of reasons: it is fun, and the song at the end is quite catchy! Sung by Lily herself it is a very nice way to end the film.
I'll leave you with the song, which BTW is called I Believe in Love. Enjoy!

What can I say I really like the song!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Hello!
I realise it has been some time since my last post, but today I have lots of things to tell you guys!

Let us start with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a film which starrs very famous (and let us say... veteran) actors such as Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Underworld), Judi Dench (M in James Bond films) or Maggie Smith (Harry Potter saga, Downton Abbey). We can also find Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire).

OK, so this film is about a "luxury hotel" for elders and it is in India, so these English people with nothing to lose go there expecting to live their last days in the shoes of a Maharajah. But what they find there is less than appealing given that Sonny (Dev Patel) is still trying to get the hotel going correctly.

In this very funny and sentimental film we see how each character develops a different view on what surrounds them, each with their own goals and hopes, but all the while we see the fight of each one of them to be happy.

"Everything will be alright in the end; if it's not alright then it's not the end". That is Sonny's phrase to keep him going in this dream hotal his father also dreamt about but never achieved.

I was not too keen on watching this movie, but when I did I really enjoyed it. The images of India are great and the dialogues are witty and also moving.
I mark it 8/10 and recommend it to whoever enjoys a laugh and a bit of emotion in a film.
