Life of Brian

Does any of you think that there is a more endurable humour than that of Life of Brian?

I don't.

This film, born from the great minds of Monty Python, was released in 1979 and caused great havoc. Very funny and equally controversial, it tells the Life of Brian, who was born on the same day as Jesus and his life is parallel to that of the Christian Son of God. It received maaaany critiques because it parodies the Christian faith and, looking more deeply into it, any monotheistic faith.

It critisizes and ridicules every aspect of religion and does it in the most inventive and sharp manner.

Totally recommendable you will have a great time and enjoy religion seen as something hysterical and random.

Please watch it, because it is immortal humour.

9.5/10

Here you have one of the most hilarious scenes in the film!
The stutter.

Night of the Living Dead

Hello, today I'm going to talk about a classic: Night of the Living Dead.
Directed by George A. Romero, this 1968 film caused lots of controversy in the USA when it was released because of its explicitly violent scenes and the gore we find in it. Of course, nowadays this is nothing for us, but I think it is very interesting to see the changes in censorship and public reaction to violence from then to now.

The film starrs Duane Jones as Ben, a man who hides in a farmhouse with Barbra (Judith O'Dea) from a crowd of frenzied killers. Once in the house they find more people who are hiding from the killings. Later they find out that these are no normal people: they have been infected by a radiation that came from outerspace and now they can only die if their brain is destroyed. Also, the radiation makes dead people come back to life as the killers that now roam the country.

The film is the fight for survival of this small group of people entrenched in a house against hordes of zombies.

I have very much enjoyed this film even if it is old and in black and white (due to low budget), but this gives the film an interesting aesthetic.

8/10 enjoy de classic zombie film!

Billy Talent III

Yes, I know this album has been around since 2009, but it was only today that I have listened to it whole!

And it is great. Out of the eleven songs, there is not one which I don't like.
I am no Billy Talent expert, but I think they maintained their style and still managed to improve.

Some of the best songs, for your information are:
-The Dead Can't Testify
-White Sparrows
-Saint Veronika

8.5/10 I have already listened to the whole thing 4 times today!

Here you have the music video of one of the songs in the album: Rusted from the Rain.

Enjoy!

Dark Shadows

Johnny Depp has totally redeemed himself after the catastrophic Rum Diary.

This film is great! How could it not be, when it is directed by Tim Burton, with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green...
The story goes as such: Barnabas Collins is the son of a wealthy Englishman who has gone to the newly colonised America to build a big fishing empire. Barnabas has the bad luck of playing with the feelings of a witch who curses him and his family. She transforms him into a vampire and later turns the town against him to bury him alive for eternity.

This was all in the 18th century. 200 years later (well, 196), in 1972, he manages to get out. What he finds is a world he does not understand and which does not understand him. He also finds his family and company in ruins and the witch that did that to him.

This film is hilarious in many levels, from intelligent humour, silly humour and details. I have loved it. Johnny Depp is impecable as a stiff, colonial-speaking vampire and the dialogues are witty and very well carried out. Also, Eva Green is haaawt in this film!

9/10 for this great film!

Do not miss it!!

Evernote

Do you ever have the need to note something down on a paper so that you can remember later?
A number, a shop, a song, a film.... Well it always happens to me, especially with songs and films.

I tend to use a normal notepad app in my phone, but today I discovered something which is really cool and can be used for more things: Evernote.

This is a program which allows you to take notes in your android, iPhone, aaand your computer, Windows, Mac or tablet or iPad or whatever, and have them all syncronise together! :D
Not only this but it has great features like sound notes aaand notes that type while you talk, SIRI style!
It has another great thing: ok imagine you take a picture of a... business card or the poster of a concert. Even if it is an image, the program recognises the writing and you can search for it within your notes as if it were tagged!

A colleague at the company where I am doing internships showed it to me and I think its great!

Oh another thing! Given that you can use it in your computer, there is an app thing called Evernote wep clipper, which allows you to save a whole page on a website immediately into your notes, and then you can read or search whatever it was you wanted.

Well I thought it was an interesting thing and I a marking it 9/10 for being so practical!

The Rum Diary

Hello my people!

Today I am going to talk about a film by one of the best and most succesful actors in Hollywood (and actually one of my personal favourites): Johnny Depp.

For me Johnny is generally a guarantee that the film is going to be enjoyable and great. Well, that didn't work out this time. The Rum Diary is probably Depp's worst and most boring film (even worse than Pirates of the Caribbean 3, which was terrible). I must say I haven't watched Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but it could not be any worse than it predecessor.

So, Johnny Depp is the journalist Paul Kemp, from New York, and he goes to Puerto Rico in the 1950s to work at a newspaper. From the moment the film starts everything is decadent, his life is lost without a path (like the film's plot) and we see a succession of scenes in which Depp is comatosely drunk. The rest of characters are equally as lost as the script writers and I nearly fall asleep.

So I will mark it a... 3/10 because it has a funny scene in a car, which you guys can live without watching.

There, I hope you follow my advice and go watch The Avengers instead.

League of Legends

Call me a geek, but I am nowadays really enjoying an online game called League of Legends.

It is a platform with graphics and gameplay similar to World of Warcraft, but without it being a role-play game.
What you do is choose a character from one of the many the game has and you fight in a team against another, to try and destroy each other's base. It is actually very simple and you get the hang of it fairly easily.

You play with magic, power and that sort of thing and it is really fun! I would not have started to play this game normally but many of my friends at uni and back home were playing and I tried it, and like it a lot!

The characters are different from one another in abilities and general characteristics of attack (some are hand to hand, others are ranged or support) and when you get the hang of the type you like, you can start playing with your friends in the same team online.

I find it more recommendable than World of Warcraft given that you do not spend your life playing, as you can play a match and that's it, it is not a continuous storyline, and you don't have to pay, you just have to download it for free in their website.

I am really having fun with this game so 9/10.

Do check that your computer is a Windows because it doesn't work with Mac, and you need a decent RAM memory and graphics card.

The Avengers

Pure testosterone, and Scarlett Johansson. That's how you can describe The Avengers.

In a film where we can see Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Loki and Nick Fury, there is only one  thing that can happen: Epicness.

So there we have it, more than two hours of the Avengers being awesome, fighting, answering with catchy phrases and blowing things up. I could not have asked for more. It could not be any more epic, I promise.

It is also very interesting how all the stories of the Marvel characters mix within the film, with the Teseract from Captain America being worked upon by the scientist in Thor, and how Stark's father is the same Stark that helped Captain America and retrieved the Teseract from the depths of the seas. Not only this, but this Teseract comes from Asgard, Thor's planet and Hawkeye had made an appearance in Thor while Black Widow had showed us how sexy she is in Iron Man 2.

Not only the theme, but the cast is amazing. With actors and actresses like Robert Downey Jr, Samuel Jackson, Scarlett Johansson or Gwyneth Paltrow (in a brief appearance) this could not go wrong!

Oh and BTW, please note that Agent Hill is Cobie Smulders, Robin in How I Met Your Mother, an awesome show (9/10)

Great film, really recommendable if you want to have a good time and like to see how one theme fits into another, without thinking too much.

Well, 8/10 and I hope you like it!

Just some food for thought. I was discussing this with some friends, do you guys think that the bad guy at the end could be Hell Boy? Because: Hell Boy is also Marvel, the horns that Loki wears look exactly like Hell Boy's and at the end (after the credits, so wait for it) you can see a red face with a goatee very much like Hell Boy's.
So, if any of you has an answer or something to add to this mystery, please let me know!
